Generic Name : Albendazole

Presentation:

ALBAZOL-DS pink coloured chewable tablet engraved one side with CPL Monogram & break line on the other side. Each tablet contains Albendazole USP 400 mg.

Indication:

ALBAZOL-DS is a broad spectrum antihelmintic for the treatment of single or mixed worm infections by the following worm species.

Ancylostoma duodenale - Hook worm.

Ascaris lumbricoides - Round worm.

Enterobius vermicularis - Pin worm.

Necator americanus - Hook worm.

Strongyloides stercoralis - Thread worm.

Trichuris trichiura - Whip worm.

Taenia saginata - Tape worm.

Dosage and administration:

Usual dose in both adults and children over 2 years of age.

For mild infection: One tablet (400 mg as a Single dose).

For severe infection: One tablet / Day for 3 days. In case of pin worm (Enterobius vermicularis) the dose should be repeated after 2 Weeks (1^st day 400 mg, 15^th day another 400 mg).

In case of strongyloidiasis or taeniasis albendazole 400 mg as a single dose should be given for 3 days. If the patient is not cured on follow up after 3 weeks, a second course of treatment is indicated.

Contraindication:

Albendazole is contra-indicated in patients with known hypersensitivity reactions.

Use in pregnancy:

Because Albendazole was found to be embryotoxic & teratogenic in the rat & rabbit, its use is contraindicated in pregnant women or those likely to be pregnant.

Side Effects:

A few cases of gastro-intestinal discomfort and headache have been reported, but no definite relationship with drug has been shown.

Protect from heat, light and moisture. Store in a cool dry place.
